There has been a dramatic surge of Russian tourists to Thailand as of late, with November seeing a doubling of arrivals compared to the previous month and a roughly sevenfold increase from September.
Reportedly, November saw around 1.75 million international arrivals to Thailand. The data also revealed a striking increase in the number of Russian visitors to the nation, with their numbers even outpacing those of visitors from other countries in the lead-up to the high season.
Arrivals from Russia increased to 108,985 in November, according to official figures, from 44,314 in October and 15,900 in September. About 60% of 2019’s November Russian arrivals were from Russia.
Russians continue to make up around a quarter of Phuket’s visitors due to the convenient connection between Moscow and Bangkok, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). It has been estimated that the average length of a family vacation has increased from 16 days to several months as more people choose to rent homes.
