The Prime Minister has praised the timely growth of the country’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) initiative, which has been commensurate with the initiative’s schedule. The Prime Minister has requested collaboration from all parties in order to advance this campaign, which will increase people’s income and promote national growth.
Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his pleasure with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) campaign’s development success, which has reached many milestones in accordance with its development schedule. General Prayut stressed the relevance of the initiative at a meeting of the EEC Policy Committee, stating that it will assist to increase people’s income and advance national development.
On this occasion, the committee meeting approved the renovation proposal for Rayong’s Pluak 2 Hospital, with the selection of private contractors set for 2023. Important EEC-related infrastructure development projects have made great progress. Contractors have begun prepping the Suvarnabhumi-U-Tapao and Makhasan-Si Racha sections for construction following the handover of land plots for the State Railway of Thailand’s airports’ connecting high-speed railway. Construction is anticipated to begin if the Board of Investment of Thailand issues the necessary investment promotion certificates (BOI).
Following the signing of a land usage agreement between the Royal Thai Navy and private contractors, the U-Tapao International Airport refurbishment and the Eastern Airport City projects are scheduled to begin building the following year. Renovations and expansions of local seaports are also doing well, with land reclamation at Map Ta Phut Industrial Port already 31.57 percent complete, or 3.39 percent ahead of schedule, and infrastructure building currently in the design phase. Meanwhile, Phase 1 of Laem Chabang Port’s land reclamation has been completed and marine building has begun. Phase 1 investments in the EEC from 2018 to 2022 have been approved for a total of 1,92 trillion baht, above the planned goal of 1,7 trillion baht. In addition, efforts are underway to market the EEC as the region’s electric vehicle production hub and to encourage manufacturing automation. These initiatives are designed to promote investments in the bio-circular-green economic model and assist enterprises.
