The lines operated by private bus operators will be reduced from July 1 due to the increase in fuel prices

At a recent meeting with transport companies, Mr. Pichet Jiamburaset, President of the Thai Bus Business Association, announced that private bus operators have agreed to reduce services on 143 bus lines by about 80 percent from July 1, 2022. The transport company representative said the measure was aimed to ensure the survival of the companies until the government approves a revised fee chart in accordance with the current cost of fuel.

Mr. Pichet added that while the companies could partially transfer the fuel increase to users, the private operators will not be able to face the fuel price rises on their own, which reached 1,600 baht per trip this week, up from 1,400 baht last week.

The government-owned Transport Co Ltd said it will consult with private bus operators to implement solutions that will support the struggling companies while reducing the impact on customers. The state-owned company also assures that it will continue to operate normally on domestic and international routes, with prices remaining fixed for the time being.
