The mango sticky rice trend continues to be strong. A seller of mango sticky rice in Hua Hin said the trend created by Milli had caused sales to soar many times, causing a faster production. She still confirmed no price adjustment.
Por. Pailin, the famous mango sticky rice shop in Chatchai Market, Hua Hin, has been seen busy since the early morning, spotting many customers who buy a box of ready-to-eat Nam Dok Mai mango sticky rice, and a separate set between sticky rice and mango. Most of the time customers buy mango sticky rice in bags rather than in ready-to-eat boxes because of more quantity. Plus, now it is the mango season, making mangoes easy to buy and cheap.
Mrs. Weeranan Huekhanjiraroj, the owner of the mango sticky rice shop, Por. Pailin, Hua Hin, said that she was shocked by the mango fever created by a Thai famous rapper “Milli Danupa” who is the first Thai solo artist on the global stage of Coachella 2022 who after her rap show ate mango sticky rice on the stage. The current trend has fortified the sales of the shop as there are many new and old customers flocking to buy mango sticky rice. Normally, Thai people like to eat mango sticky rice, but when there is a trend, many people have a feeling of wanting to try even more.
Admittedly by the shop owner, during this period, sales have increased almost 5 times, both in the morning at Chatchai market and in the evening at Dinosaur market. On the first day she barely made orders in time. Before the fever, one bowl took less than an hour to run out. However, now she has to start steaming and mooning glutinous rice earlier at 5 AM. At Por. Pailin, Nam Dok Mai mangos are used, which are grown in Sam Roi Yot, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The current trend has a positive effect on mango farmers, especially now which is the mango season when the price is low and results in oversupply. Not only Por. Pailin, but also every mango sticky rice store sells well. It is confirmed that the price of mango sticky rice has been set at 160 baht per kilogram. There is also sticky rice with different faces wrapped in banana leaves, 15 baht per pack.
