AirAsia is working on new destinations in Thailand, one of which is Jakarta to Hua-Hin.
The company is creating new routes in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia to replace the Chinese market, according to Tony Fernandes, chief executive of Capital A, formerly AirAsia Group. However, the implementation in Thailand will largely depend on COVID-19 tests and other travel regulations which remain the most critical obstacle for the industry.
Mr. Thassapon Bijleveld, Executive Chairman of Thai AirAsia Company Limited and Asia Aviation Public Company Limited, suggested the COVID-19 examination costs reduce, the ASEAN countries, including Thailand, consider reopening the country within March to April 2022, as many countries, as well as Thailand, have reached a high rate of complete doses of vaccination, which will encourage the tourism sector to become bustling again.
Mr. Thassapon sees that the Thai government has done well in issuing the COVID-19 measures, but they should launch more campaigns to stimulate domestic tourism directly, gradually relax the disease control measures, and reduce costs associated with the virus detection to stimulate tourism indirectly.
TAA has on its drawing board plans to operate international flights to Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam shortly with an anticipated 70-80% load factor in order to avoid losses. Mr Tassapon stated, “We have to get back to the real world. The government must be brave because the current viral situation is not that severe compared to the previous waves as more Thais are already inoculated,”
